TAIKO BOOTCAMP
The first taiko bootcamp in Kyotambacho, the village in Kyoto region where Tentekomai Japan is based, took place in May 2023.
This bootcamp was organized exclusively for the Belgium taiko teams Feniks Taiko and Araumi Daiko, both directed by Grete Moortgat.
All participants not only enjoyed playing taiko every day, they also discovered other musical instruments, learned about the Japanese culture and experienced the beauty of the Japanese countryside.

The success of the first taiko bootcamp and the enthusiasm of the participants,
made us decide to organize more taiko bootcamps in the future in Japan as well as in Europe.
Two taiko bootcamps are scheduled: one in Japan in 2024 and another one in the Netherlands in 2025.
Anyone who have a passion for playing taiko and an interest in Japanese culture can sign up for these taiko bootcamps.

8-day Taiko bootcamp with open registration in Kyotambacho
Sunday 20 – Monday 28 October 2024
The next taiko bootcamp in Kyotambacho is scheduled from Sunday 20 October 2024 to Monday 28 October 2024.
This will be an international bootcamp with open registration for people with a passion for playing taiko at all levels, from beginner to advanced.
The bootcamp will naturally focus on practicing and playing taiko. Every day will start with a 4-hour intensive taiko class by Akira and Kanako. In the afternoon an enrichment program will be offered. Participants can experience playing other Japanese musical instruments such as samisen, take part into various workshops like bachi making and cooking, join exchange programs with local people or enjoy excursions to places in the region.

6-day taiko bootcamp in the Netherlands
Not everybody is in the opportunity to join a taiko bootcamp in Japan so that’s why we decided to organize a taiko bootcamp in the Netherlands as well. Participants can save the costs for an airplane ticket to Japan. But other than that, the summer season is a perfect time for many people to spend a holiday and Holland is a perfect place since it is not too hot in summer.
This international taiko bootcamp in the Netherlands is planned from 18 to 24 August 2025. It will be a 6-day bootcamp at the countryside (presumably in the northern part of the Netherlands).
This taiko bootcamp will also be open for everybody who wants to practice and play taiko, from beginner to advanced. It is a good opportunity to develop and improve your taiko skills and techniques and also a great way to meet other taiko players from Europe.
The taiko lessons will be given by Akira and Kanako. This bootcamp naturally focus on playing taiko but also some other activities will be offered during this bootcamp.
We are still working on the planning and organization of this taiko bootcamp.
