The first taiko bootcamp in Kyotambacho, the village in Kyoto region where Tentekomai Japan is based, took place in May 2023.
This bootcamp was organized exclusively for the Belgium taiko teams Feniks Taiko and Araumi Daiko, both directed by Grete Moortgat.
All participants not only enjoyed playing taiko every day, they also discovered other musical instruments, learned about the Japanese culture and experienced the beauty of the Japanese countryside.
The success of this first taiko bootcamp and the enthusiasm of the participants, made us decide to organize an international taiko bootcamp with open registration. This took place in the beautiful autumn season in Japan in 2024. Taiko playing lovers from Australia, UK and Holland enjoyed playing and mastering taiko together and working on a song which they performed as a finale with other performers.
Not everybody is in the opportunity or willing to go to Japan so that’s why we decided to organize an international taiko drumming bootcamp in the Netherlands too. This bootcamp took place in August 2025 at the beautiful village of Kloosterburen in the province of Groningen.
To get an impression of the bootcamp in Kyotambacho town in Japan and the one in Kloosterburen in the Netherlands, please watch the photos and video’s below.
